Lady Marmalade lyrics question!?

Lady Marmalade was re-did by Christina, Mya, Pink, Lil Kim and Missy Elliott for the movie, Moulin Rouge which was based in Paris. Why in the song do they say "Creole Lady Marmalade" ?, is it because Patty Labelle and most of them were black, and black french are Creole? Just vey curious.
