Why do prisoners get so many luxeries?

Why is it that people who break the law get so many luxeries? At federal prisons, they receive Haggen Das ice cream for desert, have HD cable tv, rebok tennis shoes for working out, as well as many other great ammeneties. Why is this? I understand people sue for more luxery, but how do they win? What the hell is wrong with our judicial system?
